I read that a new serie serie from Tama will be called Superstar but not sure with same characteristic of original
I heard John Blackwell play one at a clinic here in Columbia a couple of months ago. It really sounded great. He was using Evans heads on the toms (not sure which model), and they were very bright with tons of attack, but they had a nice tone. The floor toms were absolutely huge! The kick was very punchy with a nice deep tone as well.
If you like that birch sound, I'm sure these drums would work for you.

I'm endorsed to Tama (I'm doing a clinic tour in the UK next week to promote the new Superstar kit.)
All I can say is that it is a pro level kit at intermediate cost...it has an incredible sound!

You really should read the reviews in the drumming magazines. They dig into all the details. It's worth the investment of $5 to know just how good it is (and what's not so good about it) if you're going to drop $800 on one and play it for years. Happy shopping!
